A half-brother and sister meet for the first time in 30 years at their father’s funeral. Having grown up separately, will the long-standing gap between them still be unbridgeable? Born to Tibetan immigrant parents in America, eleven-year-old Pema has always felt the protective embrace of her close-knit community, and the overprotective eye of her father, Kelsang. However, an unexpected incident reveals the harsh realities her father has been shielding her from, and Pema begins to understand the complexities of her minority status in society for the first time.
ニュージャージーに暮らす11歳のペマは、チベット系移民の両親と慎ましく暮らしている。学校での孤独を抱えるなか、人気者の同級生をお泊まりに誘うが、父ケルサンに拒まれ、心を痛める。過去の偏見に傷ついた父は、家族の背景を守ろうとしていたのだ。ある事故をきっかけに、ペマは父の厳しさの裏にある深い愛情と、家族の絆の強さを知ることになる。
